Livin's Only Learnin' How to Lose

My jacket’s on the bed-post.
My boots are on the floor.
I'm broke down in Tucson with blues.
The highway goes forever,
but I can't go no more
where livin's only learnin' how to lose.

You know I had my fill of whiskey
and the women that I've known,
they weren't the kind that I had a mind to choose.
But I still got my freedom
and all the seeds I've sewn,
where livin's only learnin' how to lose.

Diesel down from Tennessee
to the Arizona plane.
All the way just the truck and me
and the early morning rain.
When the brakes went out I road her out
and I thumbed on into town.
But this hotel ain't no place to hand around.

So I think I'll down to Spike's bar
and get myself a beer.
Put a dime in the TV, watch the news.
Get myself a lady
and bring her back up here
where livin's only learnin' how to lose.
